Peace Hyde Headlines UBA Business Series in Nigeria, Champions Authenticity in Media

Africa’s Queen of Unscripted Television, Peace Hyde, delivered an inspiring message at the second edition of the UBA Business Series, held at UBA House in Lagos, where she joined a star-studded panel of entrepreneurs and industry experts.

Recognized by GQ South Africa as the “architect of Africa’s unscripted television revolution,” Peace Hyde is the creative force behind Netflix’s hit reality show Young, Famous & African — the first and only African original reality series on the global streaming platform. With three successful seasons under her belt and a recent win at the 2024 South African Film and Television Awards, Hyde brought both experience and energy to the UBA stage.

Speaking to a packed audience of business leaders, creatives, and MSME stakeholders, Hyde emphasized the importance of “authenticity and integrity” in today’s attention-driven media landscape.

“In a world where everyone is chasing virality and the next trending moment, it’s easy to lose your voice,” she said. “But true impact — the kind that lasts — comes when you show up as yourself, boldly and unapologetically.”

Themed “Stronger Together: Building Powerful Business Partnerships for Progress,” the UBA Business Series is part of United Bank for Africa’s broader commitment to supporting Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) across the continent. The quarterly platform brings together a vibrant mix of thought leaders who share actionable insights on scaling businesses and creating lasting impact through collaboration.

Hyde, who was also recently shortlisted as a Young Global Leader by the World Economic Forum, used the opportunity to urge young African creatives to value and protect their work.

“Your ideas have power,” she told the audience. “Learn to protect your intellectual property and never underestimate the value of your creativity. Ownership is everything.”

With Young, Famous & African becoming a cultural phenomenon and placing African narratives at the heart of global entertainment, Hyde’s presence at the event was more than symbolic — it was a reminder that Africa’s creative economy is thriving, and that women are leading the charge.

The event closed with a call for creatives and entrepreneurs alike to lean into collaboration and authenticity as key drivers of long-term success.

As Peace Hyde put it: “Africa’s time is now — and we’re writing our own story, on our own terms.”
