GJA Backs Pure FM, Calls for Swift Recovery Support
President of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA), Albert Dwumfuor, has made a passionate appeal to the general public, corporate Ghana, philanthropic individuals, and media stakeholders to rally behind Kumasi-based Pure FM as the station works to recover from a devastating fire that destroyed its studios last week.
Speaking at a press conference in Accra, the GJA President described the incident as a major blow not only to Pure FM, but to the broader media landscape in the Ashanti Region and beyond. He said the station, known for its vibrant programming and commitment to credible journalism, deserves the full backing of the nation in this moment of crisis.
“This unfortunate incident is a major setback not just for Pure FM, but for the wider media fraternity in Ghana. We cannot look on unconcerned. As a people and as stakeholders in media freedom, we must show solidarity and provide real, tangible support to help the station rise again,” Dwumfuor stated.
He revealed that following the incident, he, together with GJA General Secretary Dominic Hlordzi, visited the Pure FM premises to assess the damage and express the Association’s support. According to him, the scale of destruction was extensive and demands urgent collective intervention.
The GJA commended the management and staff of Pure FM for their resilience, professionalism, and continued commitment to serving the public despite the loss. Dwumfuor emphasized that the survival of independent media in Ghana depends on moments like this where unity, support, and shared responsibility come into play.
“I am calling on corporate institutions, benevolent individuals, and our media partners to come on board. Pure FM must not be left to rebuild alone. This is a time for action, not words,” he urged.
The GJA assured the station of its continued support and pledged to mobilize resources and advocacy efforts to help restore the station’s operations.
Pure FM, a subsidiary of the Angel Broadcasting Network, suffered massive losses after a fire gutted its main studios in Kumasi, leaving equipment and infrastructure in ruins. Since the incident, the station has been operating from a temporary setup as efforts continue toward full recovery.
