GAF Recruitment: Failed medical applicants to get second chance – Dep. Defence Minister reveals

By: Evans Osei-Bonsu

The Deputy Minister for Defence, Ernest Brogya Genfi, has announced a significant breakthrough for applicants who were unsuccessful at the medical screening stage of the 2025/2026 recruitment into the Ghana Armed Forces, confirming that affected candidates will be granted another opportunity.

In a directive that is expected to bring relief to many, Mr. Genfi urged all applicants who failed the medical assessment to return to the centres where they were examined to ascertain the specific reasons for their disqualification. The move is aimed at addressing persistent concerns about lack of feedback during the recruitment process.

Crucially, the Deputy Minister disclosed that candidates who were disqualified due to curable medical conditions will be given a second chance after seeking appropriate medical treatment. These applicants will be invited for a medical review at a later date.

He further emphasized that the review process will be conducted free of charge, removing any financial barriers for candidates seeking reconsideration.

The intervention marks a notable shift in the recruitment approach of the Ghana Armed Forces, which has in the past faced criticism over the rigidity of its screening procedures.

Observers, particularly on Social Media say the decision not only promotes fairness but also ensures that otherwise qualified individuals are not permanently excluded due to temporary health conditions.

With thousands of young Ghanaians competing annually for limited slots, the latest directive is being welcomed as a timely and inclusive reform aimed at strengthening confidence in the recruitment process.
