The National Investigation Bureau (NIB) has released the former Registrar of the Ghana Scholarship Authority, Dr. Kingsley Agyemang, following approximately 20 minutes of questioning at the agency’s Kokomlemle headquarters.
Dr. Agyemang, who currently serves as Member of Parliament for the Abuakwa South Constituency, is under investigation over alleged irregularities linked to scholarship administration during his tenure at the Scholarship Secretariat under the government of former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.
He is reported to have been picked up by operatives of the NIB on Tuesday afternoon. However, in an interview with Pure FM’s Evans Osei-Bonsu, Dr. Agyemang denied being arrested, insisting that he honoured an invitation from the investigative body after it formally notified the Speaker of Parliament and requested his presence.
Sources within the NIB, however, contend that the circumstances surrounding his appearance differ from his account.
According to persons familiar with the matter, this is not the first time Dr. Agyemang has been invited by the NIB to assist with ongoing investigations into alleged scholarship-related infractions.
The NIB has yet to issue an official statement on the development.
This remains a developing story, and further updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
