The Member of Parliament for Asante Akyem South, Hon. Kwaku Asante Boateng, has clarified remarks he made about Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, which have sparked public discussion and varied interpretations.
Speaking in a phone interview with Pure FM, the legislator explained that his earlier comments describing Dr. Bawumia as an “outsider” were not intended as a personal attack or an expression of bias against Northerners. According to him, the remark was made within the context of discussing the historical development and internal structures of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
Hon. Asante Boateng noted that his statement was aimed at highlighting the party’s principles of hard work, loyalty, and commitment, stressing that his reference to Dr. Bawumia related solely to his point of entry into the party rather than his ethnicity or competence.
He further stated that while people are entitled to their interpretations, his intention was to draw attention to the party’s evolution and the contributions of long-serving members who helped shape its foundation.
The MP reiterated his respect for the Vice President and reaffirmed his commitment to the unity and progress of the NPP.
