One of the leading members of the New Patriotic Party(NPP) in the Ashanti Region, Chairman Odeneho Kwaku Appiah has made a clarion call on the Inspector General of Police, Georg Akuffo Dampare, regarding the death of a woman allegedly abandoned by the Winneba Trauma Hospital.
In a long post on Facebook, he appeals to the IGP to investigate the case and address the country on the outcome. He stated that though the Ministry of Health has set up a committee to investigate the cause of death of the patient, nothing stops the IGP from “investigating or making an arrest”
“Sir, if you are doing or have done something, please update the country with your usual press statements. This could be murder or manslaughter and it is a criminal offence. Notwithstanding the committee set up by the Ministry of Health, when it comes to criminal offences, it is the mandate of the Police and no other institution to investigate and prosecute.”
Other reports indicate that an ambulance from the hospital was used to transport and dump the old woman who was still recovering from leg injuries after an accident at the roadside near a bush.
But Coka said, elsewhere in the Western world, killing an animal is a serious offence, not to talk of a human being.
“Yesterday in London, a police officer was removed from frontline duty after an escaped calf was rammed by a police car.”
He added that as far as he knows, the country will be in the news for the wrong reasons if the police refuse to act on the matter and appeal to the citizens to make this matter one of national interest rather than of partisan politics.
“Ghana is trending for the wrong reasons so act. For once, let’s not bring partisan politics into this serious matter. May the soul of the old woman rest in peace.”
