Pong-Tamale School Closes Due to Water Crisis
A long-standing chieftaincy conflict between the twin towns of Pong-Tamale and Kpong has escalated into a severe water crisis, affecting thousands of residents and students.
The conflict began when a sub-chief from Kpong was assaulted by some members of Pong-Tamale. In retaliation, a group of angry Kpong youths vandalized the pipeline that supplies water to the treatment plant in Pong-Tamale. The plant, which serves both towns and surrounding neighborhoods, relies on the Nabogu River in Kpong as its water source.
The resulting water shortage has hit Pong-Tamale Senior High School particularly hard.
With the community dam behind the school almost dry, students and teachers lack access to water for drinking, washing, and cooking.
Desperate community members have resorted to muddying the remaining water to catch fish, further exacerbating the crisis.
As a result, many students have been forced to return home due to the unbearable conditions.
The school’s administration is struggling to provide basic necessities, and the situation is becoming increasingly dire.
Urgent intervention is needed to resolve the conflict and restore access to clean water for the affected communities.
