The Vice-Chancellor of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Professor Christian Agyare, has urged Ghana’s youth to be deliberate about acquiring relevant skills, embracing innovation and using technology responsibly to create opportunities and drive national development.
He said the future of Ghana would largely depend on the choices, ideas and initiatives young people pursue today, stressing the need for the youth to move beyond seeking opportunities to becoming creators of solutions and impact.
Professor Agyare made the call when KNUST hosted the 5th National Youth Conference 2026, organised by the National Youth Authority (NYA) at the University’s Great Hall, bringing together young people and key stakeholders to deliberate on skills development, innovation, entrepreneurship and opportunities for building a resilient generation.
Delivering the welcome remarks, the KNUST Vice-Chancellor highlighted the importance of creating practical pathways that connect education and research with innovation, entrepreneurship, mentorship and strategic partnerships.
According to him, youth development must go beyond classroom education and provide young people with the knowledge, skills, networks and support systems required to translate ideas into tangible solutions.
“My charge to the youth is simple: dream boldly, build the right skills, work diligently, uphold integrity and use technology responsibly. Ghana’s future depends on what we build today,” Professor Agyare said.
He noted that universities have a critical role to play in shaping the next generation of innovators, entrepreneurs, professionals and leaders, particularly by creating an environment where young people can experiment, develop ideas and turn knowledge into practical impact.
Professor Agyare reaffirmed KNUST’s commitment to supporting initiatives that empower young people and strengthen the connection between academic knowledge, research, innovation and national development.
He said the University would continue to leverage its academic, research and innovation ecosystem to provide opportunities for young people to develop their capabilities and contribute meaningfully to society.
The conference provided a platform for participants to engage with experts and stakeholders on emerging opportunities, skills development and innovative approaches to addressing challenges confronting the youth.
Professor Agyare’s participation underscored KNUST’s growing commitment to youth development and its role as a leading institution for education, research, innovation and entrepreneurship in Ghana.
