Brogya Genfi begins stakeholder engagements to strengthen Ghana’s emergency preparedness

Presidential Advisor on National Resilience and Emergency Preparedness, Ernest Brogya Genfi, has commenced stakeholder engagements with key government institutions as part of a comprehensive assessment of Ghana’s national resilience and emergency preparedness architecture.

The exercise follows a directive by President John Dramani Mahama aimed at evaluating the country’s existing systems and strengthening its capacity to anticipate, prevent, respond to and recover from emergencies and disasters.

As part of the ongoing consultations, Mr. Brogya Genfi has engaged the Ministry of Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations, led by Samuel Nartey George, alongside its agencies and affiliated institutions.

The discussions focused on assessing the existing technological infrastructure, institutional capacities and coordination mechanisms that support Ghana’s preparedness for emergencies and disasters.

Particular attention was given to the role of digital technology, information systems and inter-agency collaboration in strengthening the country’s ability to identify emerging risks, coordinate responses and manage crises effectively.

Mr. Brogya Genfi has also held strategic consultations with the National Signals Bureau (NSB) and the National Centre for the Coordination of Early Warning and Response Mechanism (NCCRM) to examine the country’s intelligence, surveillance, risk-monitoring and early-warning systems.

The engagements explored opportunities to improve national situational awareness, strengthen information-sharing among relevant institutions and enhance the country’s ability to anticipate potential threats before they escalate into major emergencies.

The consultations also considered how emerging technologies could be leveraged to improve risk detection, facilitate timely decision-making and support a more coordinated and responsive national emergency management system.

The ongoing engagements form part of a broader nationwide assessment intended to identify existing strengths, institutional gaps, operational vulnerabilities and opportunities for reform within Ghana’s national resilience and emergency preparedness framework.

The findings are expected to inform recommendations aimed at improving coordination among state institutions and strengthening the country’s capacity to manage disasters and other emergencies.

The assessment also aims at moving Ghana’s emergency response beyond reactive disaster management towards a more preventive and proactive approach, where effective monitoring, reliable early-warning systems and coordinated preparedness measures help minimize the impact of emergencies on lives, livelihoods and national development.
