Pure FM organizes free breast and eye screening to mark ‘Pink October’

Pure FM, a foremost radio station in the Ashanti region, in collaboration with Akuaba Medical Centre, has organised a free breast cancer and eye screening exercise for listeners of the station and members of the general public as part of activities to mark Pink October and raise awareness about breast cancer.
The exercise, held on Friday, October 30, 2026, at the premises of Pure FM in Patasi, provided the overwhelming number of participants with access to free breast and eye screening, while other medical services were offered at discounted rates. Patrons were also treated to free food and refreshments as part of the initiative.
The programme forms part of the station’s commitment to promoting public health awareness, encouraging preventive healthcare and making essential health services more accessible to members of the community.
Speaking in an interaction with patrons and the media, the General Manager of Pure FM, Mr. Samuel Woode, popularly known as Kojo Sebor, underscored the importance of keeping breast cancer awareness at the forefront of public discourse, stressing that conversations about the disease must go beyond the annual observance of Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
He noted that breast cancer remains a significant health concern and that creating awareness, encouraging regular screening and promoting early detection are critical steps towards reducing its impact on individuals, families and society.
According to him, many lives could be protected if people developed the habit of undertaking regular medical examinations rather than waiting until they noticed unusual changes in their bodies before seeking medical attention.
Mr. Woode further emphasised the need to break the silence, fear and misconceptions surrounding breast cancer, particularly those that discourage people from going for screening or seeking professional medical advice. He encouraged both women and men to take their health seriously, support people affected by the disease and actively participate in initiatives that promote early detection.
He explained that the decision to organise the exercise was informed by the belief that radio broadcasting should extend beyond entertainment and information to include initiatives that have a direct and positive impact on people’s lives.
The inclusion of free eye screening, he indicated, also reflected the importance of adopting a holistic approach to healthcare by providing opportunities for people to pay attention to other aspects of their health.
The collaboration with Akuaba Medical Centre brought medical professionals closer to the community, providing participants with an opportunity to access essential screening services and receive professional guidance on their health.
Pure FM (95.7MHz), is a subsidiary of Ekuoba Group of Companies and operates under Ekuoba Multimedia.
The exercise forms part of the broader significance of Pink October, an annual breast cancer awareness campaign observed globally in the month of October, to promote education, encourage screening, support affected persons and highlight the importance of early detection.
