Access Bank Donates GHS50,000 to Support Ashanti GJA Press Centre Project

Access Bank Ghana PLC has donated GHS50,000 towards the completion of the Ashanti Regional Press Centre project being undertaken by the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) in the Ashanti Region.

The donation was made during a press soirée organized by the bank in Kumasi to officially unveil its new Managing Director, Pearl Nkrumah, to the media fraternity in the Ashanti Region.

The event formed part of efforts by the bank to strengthen relations between the banking sector, the media and the general public through enhanced engagement and collaboration.

Speaking at the gathering, Madam Pearl Nkrumah emphasized the important role the media plays in national development and public engagement, stressing that Access Bank remains committed to building transparent and mutually beneficial relationships with journalists across the country.

“This is my first official media engagement and visit as Managing Director of Access Bank Plc, and I could not think of a better place to begin than Kumasi and the Ashanti Region,” she stated.

She noted that the Ashanti Region remains one of Ghana’s most economically vibrant regions and explained that the bank considered it important to directly engage the media in the region rather than limiting interactions to Accra.

“The media in Kumasi plays a vital role in shaping public understanding and connecting institutions like ours to the everyday Ghanaian,” she added.

As part of the engagement, Access Bank announced its support for the Ashanti Regional GJA Press Centre project, a long-standing initiative aimed at providing journalists in the region with a permanent and conducive facility for professional activities.

For several years, the project has faced significant funding challenges, slowing construction and delaying completion despite repeated appeals for support from corporate institutions and stakeholders. The financial difficulties surrounding the project have remained a major concern for members of the media fraternity in the region.

Against this backdrop, the GHS50,000 donation by Access Bank has been widely described as timely and significant.

“I am aware of the ambitious Regional Press Center project being undertaken by the media fraternity here, and I believe it is a worthy vision. In support of this initiative, Access Bank Plc is pleased to contribute GHS50,000 towards its completion,” Madam Nkrumah announced.

She further indicated that the gesture should be seen as the beginning of a stronger partnership between the bank and the media fraternity, and not merely a one-off donation.

The donation was officially received by the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the GJA, Kofi Adu Domfe, who expressed appreciation to the bank for the support.

Mr. Adu Domfe acknowledged the numerous financial hurdles that have affected progress on the project over the years and commended Access Bank for responding to the needs of journalists in the region at a crucial time.

According to him, the contribution would help accelerate work on the facility and inspire renewed confidence among stakeholders supporting the project.

Beyond the donation, Access Bank also highlighted some of its social intervention projects in the Ashanti Region, including educational support, healthcare initiatives and sustainability programmes.

The bank’s “A Sandal More for a Better Tomorrow” initiative has supported schoolchildren with footwear made from recycled tyres while creating employment opportunities for shoemakers in the region.

Access Bank has also supported STEM education and girl-child empowerment initiatives in Kumasi, as well as healthcare improvement projects including rehabilitation works at the Amomorso CHPS Compound in the Bosome Freho District.

The latest support to the Ashanti Regional GJA is expected to further deepen the relationship between the media and the banking institution while helping push the long-delayed press centre project closer to completion.
