The Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr. Frank Amoakohene, has announced strict security measures in response to the recent fatal shooting of Alhaji Abdul-Malik Azenbge, Chief of Kusaase, at Asewase in the Asokore Mampong Municipality. The decision follows an emergency meeting of the Regional Security Council (REGSEC) held on Wednesday, July 24, 2025.
According to a press release issued by the Ashanti Regional Co-ordinating Council on Friday, July 25, signed by the Minister and copied to Purefmonlinegh.com “no motorbikes shall be permitted on the roads after 7:00pm until further notice.”
The ban forms part of a broader set of directives aimed at restoring calm and preventing further escalation in the wake of the shooting incident which occurred on Tuesday, July 22.
In addition to the nighttime ban, the statement said, “The use of unlicensed motorbikes or motorbikes without lights is strictly prohibited.” Authorities also ordered the immediate suspension of the ongoing inter-tribal football competition, explaining that it was a preventive measure “until further notice.”
Security agencies are also targeting concealment tactics by armed individuals. The REGSEC statement added that “no motorbike rider is permitted to wear a smock until further notice, as it has become an avenue for suspects to conceal weapons.”
The measures come amid mounting tensions following the killing of Alhaji Azenbge, a prominent figure in the local Kusasi community. Though the motive behind the shooting is still under investigation, the high-level response from REGSEC indicates the seriousness with which the regional authorities are treating the matter.
To reinforce the directives, REGSEC has announced a strong security presence in areas considered hotspots. “There will be increased security presence in hotspot areas, involving both the Police and Military, to ensure peace and protect lives and property,” the statement emphasized.
The Regional Minister assured the public of government’s commitment to restoring order, stating, “All necessary measures are being implemented to ensure that the perpetrators of this heinous act are brought to justice.”
The public has also been encouraged to assist with investigations. “The doors of the Security Services remain open to receive credible information that can assist in identifying and apprehending those responsible,” REGSEC urged.
The statement concluded with a firm reassurance: “The REGSEC remains ready and committed to serving the public in line with its mandate.” The directives take immediate effect as security agencies intensify operations to stabilize the situation.
