In a move widely expected to boost the party’s chances in the upcoming elections, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has chosen Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh (NAPO) as his running mate. The selection was endorsed by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo during a meeting at the Jubilee House, where Dr. Bawumia presented NAPO’s name for the president’s approval.
NAPO, a medical doctor and seasoned politician, has been a member of Parliament since 2008 and has served on various committees, including Health, Appointment, Defence, and Interior. He has also held ministerial positions, first as Education Minister in 2017 and currently as Energy Minister.
The choice of NAPO as running mate follows a Danquah Institute poll that showed him as the preferred choice among NPP party executives, with an overwhelming 77% of the vote. The Bawumia-NAPO ticket is now poised to lead the NPP into the December elections, with high hopes of securing a victory for the party.
