Black Queens Receive $9,000 Bonus; Team Officials Paid $4,500. Queens demands remaining $500

By: Bright Yeboah Taylor ‘BYT’- The Black Queens of Ghana have received their long-awaited bonuses of $9,000 each, with an outstanding balance of $500 expected to be paid.
A cheque dated 27th October 2025 has been issued to the players, but the Minister of Youth and Sports instructed that they can deposit it into their accounts on Friday, 31st October 2025. The payment was made in cedi equivalent using the Bank of Ghana exchange rate of GH₵ 10.8 per US dollar.
Each player’s $9,000 was converted to Ghana cedis before a tax deduction of GH¢7,300.
In addition, Officials of the Black Queens have received $4,500 each as part of their performance bonuses.
The bonus arrears date back to the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) held in Morocco in July 2025, where the Black Queens finished third after an impressive run in the tournament.
Their strong performance earned praise from fans and stakeholders, but the delay in settling their promised bonuses became a major talking point, leading to a boycott of training sessions at one point.
The Ministry of Youth and Sports had assured the team that all outstanding payments would be cleared before the next WAFCON campaign as part of efforts to motivate the players and coaching staff.
Although this latest payment fulfills part of that commitment, the players are still demanding the remaining $500 balance to ensure they receive their full entitlement for their efforts and achievements on the continental stage.
The players remain hopeful that the Ministry will soon release the final payment to bring closure to the long-standing bonus issue.
