Breaking: Scholarship Secretariat, NIB Arrest Fraudster Behind Fake Scholarship Scheme

The Ghana Scholarship Secretariat, in collaboration with the National Investigations Bureau (NIB), has arrested one Emmanuel Ofori, an alleged fraudster accused of swindling unsuspecting Ghanaians of millions of cedis under the guise of offering them government scholarships.

According to information available to Purefmonlinegh.com, the suspect operated several fake social media accounts including Facebook, LinkedIn, and Instagram, impersonating the Scholarship Secretariat. Through these fraudulent platforms, he allegedly lured victims with promises of scholarship awards, extorted money from them, and issued fake scholarship certificates bearing forged signatures of the Registrar.

The NIB arrested the suspect in Tema after an intelligence-led operation triggered by a formal complaint from the Registrar of the Secretariat, Mr. Alex Kwaku Asafo-Agyei, who sought the Bureau’s assistance to clamp down on the longstanding scam.

Reliable sources have confirmed that the suspect will be arraigned before court on Monday.

When contacted, Mr. Asafo-Agyei confirmed the arrest, commending the NIB for its swift action and urging the public to assist in the ongoing investigation.

“We encourage anyone who may have fallen victim to this fraudulent scheme to contact the Secretariat through 0302907058/0302907051 to submit any hard evidence that could aid prosecution,” he said.

The Ghana Scholarship Secretariat, established to provide financial support to brilliant but needy students and to reward academic excellence on a merit-based system, has repeatedly cautioned the public that its scholarship awards are not for sale. The Secretariat awards both local and foreign scholarships strictly through transparent and verifiable procedures.

“I urge the public, especially prospective applicants, to remain vigilant and rely only on the Secretariat’s official communication channels,” the Registrar cautioned. “Be wary of individuals or platforms that promise scholarships in exchange for money.”
