The Member of Parliament for Old Tafo, Vincent Ekow Assafuah, Esq., has issued a strong warning to the Registrar General Department (RGD), urging the state agency to preserve all corporate records relating to Atlas Commodities Limited amid ongoing conflict of interest allegations involving the Deputy Managing Director of the Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD).
Speaking at a press conference on Monday, February 23, 2026, Hon. Assafuah said documents at the RGD currently list Mr. Ato Boateng, COCOBOD’s Deputy MD, in charge of Finance and Administration, as holding 1,600 shares in Atlas Commodities Limited, a detail he argues contradicts Mr. Boateng’s public claim that he transferred his shares before assuming office.
“I am putting the Registrar-General’s Department on notice not to attempt to tamper with any information relating to this matter,” the MP said. “The integrity of official incorporation documents and shareholding records must be preserved.”
The warning comes as the controversy over Atlas Commodities deepens. Hon. Assafuah has petitioned the Office of the Special Prosecutor and the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ) to investigate allegations of conflict of interest and possible regulatory breaches linked to the company.
Mr. Boateng has denied any wrongdoing, describing the claims as “false and unfounded.” In a statement, he said he resigned as a director of Atlas Commodities Limited on January 20, 2025, and transferred his shares to trustees prior to taking up his role at COCOBOD. He also indicated that he declared his previous interest in the company in his assets declaration to the Auditor-General.
Hon. Assafuah further alleges that, information within his reach suggests efforts are underway to alter the shareholding structure of ATLAS Limited following his public disclosures.
“There are attempts to transfer Ato Boateng’s shares completely after I made these revelations,” he claimed. “That, in my view, is an attempt to cleanse the records and shield a public officer from accountability. It is sickening and it makes me sad.”
He cautioned that any post-petition changes to incorporation documents and shareholder records of ATLAS Limited will undermine public confidence in the investigative process, no matter the outcome, warning the Registrar General to be careful not to enhance the criminality because there will be consequences.
“These are matters of public record. No document must be altered, no record must be adjusted to suit anyone. State institutions must act with transparency and independence,” he said.
The Registrar-General’s Department has not publicly commented on the allegations. Meanwhile, the OSP and CHRAJ are yet to announce the commencement or scope of any formal investigations into the matter as at the time of filing this report.
