Eight Ghanaians Killed in Burkina Faso Attack

Eight Ghanaian nationals have lost their lives following a terrorist attack in Titao, located in the northern region of Burkina Faso.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed that the incident occurred on February 14, 2026, when armed assailants launched a deadly assault in the area. The victims were members of the Ghana National Tomatoes Traders and Transporters Association who had travelled to Titao to engage in legitimate trading activities.
Initial reports indicated that seven Ghanaians were killed in the attack. However, the death toll rose to eight after one of the four injured survivors, who had been receiving medical care, later succumbed to his injuries. The remaining injured persons are reportedly undergoing treatment.
In its statement, the Government of Ghana expressed profound grief over the tragic loss of lives and extended heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families. The government assured that it is engaging the relevant authorities and diplomatic channels to address the situation and provide the necessary support to affected families.
The attack has been strongly condemned, with officials describing it as a senseless act of violence. Government reiterated Ghana’s solidarity with the people and authorities of Burkina Faso during this difficult time.
The statement also stressed the urgent need for strengthened regional cooperation to confront the growing threat of terrorism and violent extremism in West Africa, emphasizing that collective action remains critical to safeguarding lives and maintaining stability across the region.
