Deputy Defence Minister welcomes Hungarian Ambassador to deepen Ghana–Hungary defence cooperation

By: Evans Osei-Bonsu – The Deputy Minister for Defence, Hon. Ernest Brogya Genfi, has reaffirmed Ghana’s commitment to strengthening bilateral defence and economic relations with Hungary following a high-level engagement with the Hungarian Ambassador to Ghana, H.E. Tamás Endre Fehér, at the Ministry of Defence in Accra.

The meeting, held at Burma Camp, brought together senior directors from the Ministry of Defence and formed part of ongoing efforts to formalize cooperation between the two nations in areas of mutual interest, particularly in training exchange programmes and strategic industrial partnerships.

Hon. Brogya Genfi noted that the engagement was a follow-up to previous discussions aimed at deepening collaboration between Ghana and Hungary.

“This engagement marks an important step in formalizing our defence cooperation with Hungary,” the Deputy Minister stated. “We are exploring new avenues in capacity building and training exchange, as well as strategic industrial partnerships that can support the Ghana Armed Forces in advancing national development goals.”

A key highlight of the meeting was the discussion on a strategic partnership between the Defence Industries Holding Company (DIHOC) and selected Hungarian companies for the development of a comprehensive poultry project. The initiative forms part of the Ministry’s broader plan to enhance food security and promote self-sufficiency within the Ghana Armed Forces.

“The poultry project represents more than just an agricultural venture,” Hon. Genfi explained. “It is a symbol of innovation, resilience, and mutual growth — a demonstration of how defence cooperation can contribute directly to national food security.”

Ambassador Tamás Endre Fehér, who was accompanied by the Deputy Head of Mission and the Director for Trade at the Hungarian Embassy, expressed Hungary’s continued commitment to supporting Ghana in both defence and economic development initiatives.

Hon. Brogya Genfi commended the Ambassador and his team for their dedication to strengthening Ghana–Hungary relations, emphasizing that such partnerships are vital to achieving sustainable growth and shared prosperity.

The engagement concluded with both parties reaffirming their commitment to advancing bilateral cooperation between Ghana and Hungary, particularly in the areas of defence capacity building, industrial collaboration, and food security initiatives within the Ghana Armed Forces.
