Business magnate and founder of Angel Broadcasting Network (ABN), Dr. Kwaku Oteng, has commended the President of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA), Mr. Albert Kwabena Dwumfuor, for his timely and personal visit to Pure FM following the recent fire that ravaged the station’s studios in Kumasi.
The fire, which broke out last Wednesday, destroyed key broadcasting equipment and disrupted the station’s programming, plunging one of Kumasi’s most vibrant media houses into a temporary shutdown. While no injuries were reported, the devastation prompted an outpouring of public support and concern from media professionals and institutions alike.
In a meeting with the GJA President during a courtesy call on him at the Adonko Company Limited on Tuesday, July 29, 2025, Dr. Oteng expressed deep appreciation for the GJA’s show of solidarity, describing it as a significant morale boost for the Pure FM team.
“Your visit has renewed hope, given us assurances and reaffirmed our commitment to rebuild. It tells us Pure FM is not alone in this struggle,” Dr. Oteng said.
He also applauded the GJA for moving beyond press releases and demonstrating physical presence and concern.
“We are grateful that the GJA is not only sitting in Accra issuing statements but has come on the ground to solidarize with colleagues and appreciate the gravity of the reality.”
Dr. Oteng extended his gratitude to the many sympathizers who reached out after the incident, acknowledging the solidarity messages and calls as heartening.
Mr. Albert Kwabena Dwumfuor, for his part, emphasized the Association’s commitment to supporting Pure FM throughout its rebuilding process.
“We are ready to offer whatever support the station needs — be it technical, manpower, or logistics — to bring Pure FM back to its glory days,” the GJA President assured.
He added that Pure FM is a pillar in the Ghanaian media space and praised Dr. Oteng for his consistent investments in media and journalism.
“Pure FM is a respected brand in our media landscape, and one many Ghanaians depend on for credible journalism. We commend Dr. Kwaku Oteng for establishing such a powerful platform and sustaining it even through adversity.”
The GJA President also disclosed that a national press conference is scheduled for Thursday, July 31, 2025, at the Ghana International Press Centre in Accra. According to him, the Pure FM incident will feature prominently in the discussions as the GJA explores ways to strengthen support systems for media houses in times of crisis.
This visit adds to the growing wave of support Pure FM has received from other media organizations, political parties, corporate institutions, and civil society groups, all of whom have pledged their commitment to seeing the station rise again.
