The Executive Director of Africa Education Watch (EduWatch), Kofi Asare, has commended the Ghana Scholarship Authority for publishing its list of scholarship beneficiaries, describing the move as a major step toward transparency and equity under its new Director-General, Alex Kwaku Asafo Agyei.
In a Facebook post, Mr. Asare praised the reforms being undertaken at the Authority, noting that information on scholarship beneficiaries had historically been difficult to obtain and often required Right to Information (RTI) requests and legal action.
“For the first time, Scholarship Authority publishes beneficiary list on website? Eii, what was once gov’t secret requiring RTI & legal battles is now public? Eduwatch avows progress!” he wrote.
He added that the development reflects a growing commitment to openness and fairness in the administration of public scholarships, stressing that “transparency lights the path to accountability.”
Mr. Asare’s comments come at a time when the Scholarship Authority is implementing a series of reforms under Mr. Asafo Agyei, who has been described by stakeholders as a hardworking and reform-minded appointee focused on improving transparency, promoting merit-based selection and ensuring equitable distribution of scholarships across the country.
