Political analyst Dr. Solomon Fokuo Kwarteng has described internal divisions within political parties as inevitable, urging party leaders—particularly within the New Patriotic Party (NPP)—to manage such factions with firmness and strategic leadership.
“There is no political party without factions,” he stated during an interview on ‘Pure Morning Drive’ with Kwame Adinkra on Tuesday. “Whether we accept it or not, they will always exist. But the leaders of the party must stand firm to make decisions to manage the situation.”
Reflecting on the just-ended NPP National Delegates Conference held in Accra, Dr. Fokuo Kwarteng commended the organization and execution of the event but noted that the true test lies ahead. “This conference was well organized and executed and is in the right direction, but the leaders must show commitment and accountability,” he emphasized.
He also touched on recent constitutional amendments within the party that limit the powers of the flagbearer compared to previous provisions. “The leader of the party now has limitations in decision-making, unlike the previous law where the flagbearer became the leader in all sectors. We are yet to be tested,” he noted.
Dr. Fokuo Kwarteng concluded by stressing the importance of unity and reform in the NPP’s quest to reclaim power in the next general elections. “Reforms are essential in the party’s quest for power,” he said. “The party must stay united, even though there are factions, and make firm decisions for progress.”
