The Government of Ghana has officially restored the name of Kotoka International Airport to its original identity, Accra International Airport.
In a statement released on Monday, February 23, the Ministry of Transport explained that the facility was previously known as Accra International Airport before it was later renamed. The decision to revert to the former name, the Ministry noted, aligns with its longstanding and internationally recognised designation.
Authorities emphasized that the change is purely nominal and will not impact airport operations, safety protocols, or international travel arrangements. The Ministry also pointed out that within the records of the International Civil Aviation Organization, the airport’s code has consistently remained “ACC.”
As part of the transition, officials will update statutory documents where necessary, revise airport signage, adjust digital platforms, and amend aviation publications and other official materials.
Government has urged stakeholders, international partners, and the general public to cooperate fully to ensure a smooth implementation process, while expressing appreciation for their continued support.
