Mahama’s Women’s Development Bank Pledge Will Empower Women Financially – Awuah Darko

Kwame Awuah Darko, former CEO of the Bulk Oil Storage and Transportation Company (BOST) and Tema Oil Refinery (TOR), has stated that the next John Mahama government plans to establish a Women’s Development Bank to further support women in expanding their businesses.

He made this revelation at a campaign rally in Ash-Town, in the Manhyia South Constituency of the Ashanti Region on Saturday, September 8, 2024.

“The vision of John Dramani Mahama is to develop and resource Ghanaian women in trade. Once our mothers and sisters are financially independent, there will be joy in every home,” he said, urging voters to support the NDC in the upcoming election to make this vision a reality.

The former BOST MD emphasized that the NDC has outlined several projects aimed at empowering women in small and medium-sized businesses if they return to power, adding that John Mahama, during his term as President, built the Kejetia Market to provide a business-friendly environment for traders.

While praising the NDC for reducing the NPP’s votes by 10,000 in the 2020 elections in the constituency, he called on the electorate in the Ashanti Region to reconsider their political alliance with the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and start a new political journey with the NDC.

He urged party supporters to intensify their house-to-house campaigns to ensure victory for the NDC’s presidential candidate, John Dramani Mahama, and the parliamentary candidate for Manhyia South, Amonu Gyemfua.

He encouraged supporters and sympathisers of the party to double their efforts in securing a win for the party.

Parliamentary candidate for Manhyia South, Amonu Gyemfua, also assured supporters that the NPP would not be able to manipulate the election through multiple voting, as had allegedly happened in the past.

The rally was attended by notable NDC figures, including former Director of Elections Elvis Afriyie Ankrah, former Obuasi MCE Kwasi Ofori Agyemang (also known as King Zuba), Dr. Frank Amoakohene regional secretary and Asokore Mampong MCE Nurudeen Hamidan among several others.
