Otumfuo declares Prof. Jane Naana Opoku Agyemang “A Vice President in Whom I Am Well Pleased” at KNUST Congregation

By: Evans Osei-Bonsu- The Chancellor of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has described the Vice President, Prof. Jane Naana Opoku Agyemang, as “a Vice President in whom I am well pleased,” a remark that became one of the defining moments of the university’s 59th Congregation.

Otumfuo made the statement in his opening address at the ceremony, during which 221 graduands were awarded Doctor of Philosophy degrees.

In his address, the Chancellor renewed his long standing call for the completion of the KNUST Teaching Hospital. He noted that the project has remained an unfulfilled promise for many years and urged that it be brought to completion without further delay.

Speaking directly to the Vice President, Otumfuo expressed confidence in her resolve to ensure that the project is finally delivered. “Thank you also, Madam Vice President. You have given a resolve. I know this is not just a promise but when you promise, you deliver,” he said.

He further encouraged Prof. Opoku Agyemang to seize the moment and champion the full completion of the hospital, urging her to leave a lasting mark on the university’s history. He called on her to “immortalize your name as the game changer who brought this vision, a generational promise, into being.”

This year’s Congregation brought together senior government officials, the university’s leadership, faculty, alumni, graduands and their families. The event marked an important milestone for KNUST as it celebrated the achievements of its newest doctoral graduates and reaffirmed its commitment to advancing research and national development.

Among the 221 graduands who received Doctor of Philosophy degrees was Pure FM’s seasoned broadcaster, Kwame Adinkrah. He earned a Doctor of Philosophy in Visual Communication Design at the Department of Communication Design of the university.

His doctoral thesis was titled “Visual Pollution and Urban Livability in Kumasi: A Visual Communication Design Perspective on Billboard Proliferation and Sustainable Development.”
