Police investigate attack on officers at Jacobu
The Ashanti Regional Police Command is investigating an incident in which a group of civilians at Bepotenten Sukuum attacked the Jacobu District patrol team while carrying out routine duties.
A statement issued by the police said the confrontation resulted in the shooting of one person who had taken the weapon of the officer and another was injured. The service rifle was successfully recovered.
The Police Command cautioned the public against attacks on its officers since perpetrators will be pursued and arrested to face the full rigours of the law.
A viral footage of the incidence show a scuffle between police officers and illegal miners at Bepotenten, a galamsey prone area in the Ashanti region.The 3 minute video shows a group believed to be miners clash with some police officers.
Meanwhile, the Amansie Central district Security Council is expected to convene a meeting on Monday to analyze a viral video and take a decision.
