Six individuals have officially picked nomination forms to contest the National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary primary in Ayawaso East ahead of the March 3 by-election.
The aspirants include the NDC constituency chairman, Mohammed Ramme; Hajia Amina Adam, widow of the late Member of Parliament; Ghana’s High Commissioner to Nigeria, Baba Jamal; and Dr Yakubu Azindow. The remaining contenders are Najib Mohammed Sani and Salam Daru.
Speaking on the Citi News Digest, the NDC’s Deputy Director of Elections and IT, Rashid Tanko Computer, described the contest as highly competitive and outlined key activities leading to the primary scheduled for February 7.
According to him, nominations closed with six aspirants successfully picking forms, with the wife of the late MP being the final person to do so. He added that the next stage of the process will be the filing of nomination forms, slated for Tuesday, January 27.
“We are now waiting to see how many of the aspirants will return their completed forms,” he stated.
The Ayawaso East parliamentary seat became vacant following the death of the sitting MP, Mahama Naser Toure, on January 4, 2026, after a short illness.
Following the vacancy declaration by Parliament, the Electoral Commission (EC) fixed Tuesday, March 3, 2026, for a by-election in line with constitutional requirements.
