Ablekuma North Rerun: NDC Likely to Win as NPP Faces Low Support – Global Info Analytics Boss Predicts

With just days to the crucial parliamentary rerun in Ablekuma North, Executive Director of Global Info Analytics, Musah Danquah, is predicting a likely defeat for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) at the hands of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
Speaking on Joy FM’s Top Story on Tuesday, July 9, 2025, Mr. Danquah shared a bleak outlook for the NPP’s chances, explaining that internal discontent and low energy among the party’s grassroots base had left it vulnerable going into the July 11 vote.
According to him, even before the party’s threats to boycott the rerun, enthusiasm had already dipped significantly among NPP supporters in the constituency. The situation, he explained, made voter turnout a serious challenge—one that the NPP might not be able to overcome in time.
“The boycott talk is not really the issue. The NPP would have struggled to mobilise its base even without that,” Danquah said.
He described a general sense of voter apathy in Ablekuma North, especially within the NPP camp, while noting that the NDC appeared more motivated and better positioned to capitalise on the moment.
His prediction comes just one day after the High Court dismissed an injunction application filed by NPP parliamentary candidate Nana Akua Afriyie. The suit sought to stop the Electoral Commission from conducting a rerun in 19 polling stations within the constituency, citing an earlier court order from January that directed the EC to collate remaining results and declare a winner from the December 2024 elections.
Justice Ali Baba Abature, who presided over the matter, ruled that the EC’s constitutional mandate must be upheld, and that delaying the rerun would deny constituents their right to representation in Parliament. He dismissed the injunction as unmeritorious and confirmed that the EC could proceed with the election.
The upcoming rerun is expected to finally resolve the long-standing dispute over the results of the 2024 parliamentary election in Ablekuma North, which has been entangled in legal challenges and uncollated polling station results since December last year.
