A member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Communication Team, Moro Yakubu, has urged Ghanaians not to judge the government solely by its promise to implement the 24-hour economy.
Speaking in an interview with Kojo Sebor on Pure FM’s ‘Pure Morning Drive’, Mr. Yakubu said the government still had time to fully implement the policy and would deliver on its commitment.
“It will be unfair to mark us with only the 24-hour economy promise. We have years ahead of us to actualise that promise, and we will not fail on that,” he said.
He argued that the government had already made significant progress in other areas, including education, infrastructure and economic management, and urged Ghanaians to consider those interventions when assessing its performance.
Mr. Yakubu particularly cited the government’s ‘No Fees Stress’ policy, which provides funding for academic fees for eligible first-year students in public tertiary institutions.
He said the initiative had eased the financial burden on families and demonstrated the government’s commitment to expanding access to tertiary education.
He also pointed to what he described as greater stability in the economy, including developments in the exchange rate, as well as ongoing road projects and efforts to revive abandoned infrastructure projects across the country.
“The 24-hour economy has moved into the implementation phase following the passage and presidential assent to the 24-Hour Economy Authority Act.
Government has announced the commencement of multi-shift operations in selected sectors as part of efforts to increase production and create jobs.”
“While the 24-hour economy remained a key priority for the administration, it should be assessed within the broader context of the government’s overall performance.”
“We have done a lot in other sectors, and that should also be the standard by which we are judged,” he added.
