Reverse scheduled Ghana School of Law entrance exams directive now- Assafuah to Gov’t

The Member of Parliament for Old Tafo, Vincent Ekow Assafuah, Esq, has accused Government of betraying thousands of Ghanaian law students following a sudden U-turn on the Ghana School of Law entrance examinations, describing the move as “reckless” and “a betrayal of trust.”

In a strongly worded statement shared on Facebook, the Tafo MP described the move as a “shocking and unacceptable U-turn,” insisting that the Government had misled students ahead of the 2024 general elections.

“The National Democratic Congress (NDC) made an unequivocal promise to scrap the Ghana School of Law entrance examinations- branding them as an unnecessary barrier to legal education,” he stated. “This promise was not ambiguous. It was loud, deliberate, and politically weaponized to win the confidence of thousands of Ghanaian students.”

According to him, the situation further worsened when President Mahama assumed office, where students were assured in series of media interviews to shelve any preparation for entrance exams by NDC MPs like Rockson Nelson Dafeamekpor (MP for South Dayi) and Francis Xavier Sosu (MP for Madina) all insisting that the entrance examination to the Ghana School of Law had been “completely eradicated.”

“Students were explicitly told there was no need to prepare for any such examination,” Assafuah emphasized.

However, in what he describes as a “stunning display of incompetence and disregard,” Government has now directed students to sit for entrance examinations scheduled for 31st July 2026. This he said is a stack of betrayal.

“This is not governance. This is recklessness of the highest order,” he declared.

The Old Tafo MP did not mince words in attributing responsibility, pointing to actions within Government circles, which he claims reveal “a troubling pattern of deception, poor planning, and a dangerous willingness to toy with the future of young Ghanaians to achieve a self-aggrandized fiefdom of the so-called NDC’s Law Society of Ghana .”

Assafuah stressed that legal education remains a cornerstone of national development and must not be subjected to political inconsistency.

“Legal education, a critical pillar of national development, cannot be reduced to political experiments driven by ego and propaganda,” he noted.

He further argued that thousands of students had already structured their academic lives based on Government assurances.

“Thousands of students structured their academic paths, study schedules, and expectations based on clear assurances from Government. To now ambush them with a reversal is not only unjust, it is cruel,” he said.

Demands to Government

The MP outlined a series of demands, calling for urgent corrective action:

“The immediate withdrawal of the directive compelling students to sit for the 2026 entrance examinations. Failing this, a full and unqualified public apology from Government to all affected students and their families.”
“Clear, transparent communication on the implementation of the legal education reforms they earnestly praised to have passed.”

He maintained that the development goes beyond policy failure, describing it as “a betrayal of trust and governance deception.”

“We remind the Government that leadership carries responsibility. You cannot make sweeping promises, legislate in haste, misinform the public, and then retreat without consequence,” Assafuah asserted.

Reaffirming his support for affected students nationwide, Assafuah assured them of continued advocacy and resistance against what he termed injustice.

“To all law students and families across Ghana: we stand firmly with you. Your sacrifices, your dreams, and your future will not be trampled upon without resistance,” he stated.

He added, “We will pursue every legitimate avenue to ensure accountability, fairness, and justice in this matter. Lies and propaganda will never be allowed to be used to crush your ambitions and dreams.”

Ending on a resolute note, he declared: “Your interest is our solemn cause.”
