World Cup: Black Stars Fan and Young Lawyer Sara Araba Tetteh Laid to Rest
Family, friends, colleagues and members of Ghana’s legal fraternity gathered in Kumasi on Friday, July 17, to bid a final farewell to young lawyer Sara Araba Tetteh, whose sudden passing last month left many in shock and mourning.
According to details contained in the funeral brochure, Sara passed away in the early hours of June 18, 2026, after reportedly collapsing while celebrating Ghana’s dramatic late victory over Panama at the FIFA World Cup. The Black Stars supporter had been closely following the match, which ended in jubilation for many Ghanaians but tragically became a moment of profound loss for her family.
The burial, memorial and thanksgiving service was held at Bethel Methodist Church, Ayigya, Kumasi, where tributes painted the picture of a brilliant, compassionate and promising young lawyer whose life, though brief, left a lasting impression on those who knew her.
Born on May 23, 2000, Sara was remembered as an intelligent and determined young woman whose passion for learning was evident from an early age. She completed her basic education at KNUST Primary and Junior High School before attending University Practice Senior High School in Cape Coast. She later pursued a Bachelor of Laws degree at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), graduating in 2023.
Driven by a long-held dream of joining the legal profession, she proceeded to the Ghana School of Law, Kumasi Campus, and was called to the Ghana Bar in October 2025. She subsequently joined O & A Legal Consult, where she undertook her pupillage and began what many described as a highly promising legal career.
Tributes from her KNUST LLB Class of 2023, Ghana School of Law colleagues, employers, family and friends consistently highlighted her intelligence, generosity, humility and willingness to support others. Classmates recalled her readiness to share study materials and encourage colleagues through challenging academic periods, while colleagues remembered her professionalism, warmth and dedication to her work.
Her mother, Rebecca Abadoo-Mensah, described her as not only a daughter but also a confidante and friend, speaking of the deep bond they shared and the immense void created by her passing.
The Ghana Bar Association, in its tribute, described Sara as a young lawyer whose future held immense promise and whose commitment to excellence and service would continue to inspire others.
As loved ones gathered to celebrate her life, many reflected not only on her academic and professional achievements but also on the kindness, laughter and optimism that defined her. Though her journey was cut short, those who knew her said her memory and impact would endure in the hearts of family, friends, colleagues and the many lives she touched.
Notably, neither the Ghana Football Association nor the Ministry of Sports was represented at the funeral to commiserate with the family of a devoted Black Stars supporter who, despite having a court case scheduled for the following day, stayed awake late into the night to cheer the Black Stars to victory at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Her final act of support was a powerful reflection of her patriotism and deep love for Ghana. She carried an unwavering passion for the Black Stars and Ghana football, believing in the dream of seeing the nation’s team rise, excel, and proudly shine on the global stage.
