GJA President visits fire-ravaged Pure FM, pledges support for swift recovery

Kumasi, Ghana – By: Evans Osei-Bonsu
President of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA), Mr. Albert Kwabena Dwumfuor, has paid a heartfelt solidarity visit to the premises of Pure FM following the devastating fire that gutted the station’s studios in Patasi, Kumasi.
The visit, which took place just days after the unfortunate incident, was marked by a strong show of empathy and a renewed call for collective action. Mr. Dwumfuor, visibly moved by the extent of destruction, described Pure FM as “home” and said he was “completely broken” by what he had seen.
“This is home to me. Hearing the news was heartbreaking, but being here and seeing the ruins in person is even more devastating,” he said.
He expressed shock at the fire, which destroyed critical broadcasting equipment and disrupted operations. However, the GJA President was also full of praise for the swift and determined response by the station’s management.
“I am amazed at the speed with which a temporary studio has been set up. It speaks volumes of the leadership and resilience of the management and especially Dr. Kwaku Oteng, the owner of Pure FM,” Mr. Dwumfuor noted.
“Their decision to push forward and resume full programming almost immediately is nothing short of inspiring.”
Mr. Dwumfuor pledged the full support of the GJA and called on the business community, stakeholders, and the general public to rally behind Pure FM in its efforts to rebuild.
“We cannot allow Pure FM to fall. I have already begun engaging stakeholders—business leaders, media partners, and others—to come together and restore this important media house to its rightful place,” he said.
He also lauded the station’s legacy of excellence, noting that Pure FM has consistently maintained high standards in journalism.
“Pure FM has towered above in professionalism, ethical reporting, and journalistic integrity. The industry recognizes this, and we must stand with them in this trying moment,” he added.
The GJA President’s visit adds to the growing wave of solidarity the station has received from prominent political figures, corporate bodies, and fellow media institutions. The management of Pure FM has expressed deep appreciation for the visit, calling it a major morale booster.
As the station fights to return to full strength, Mr. Dwumfuor’s message was clear: Pure FM will rise again—and it will not rise alone.
