A fresh poll by Global Info Analytics shows a notable shift in political support among the Akan ethnic group, traditionally viewed as a core base of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP).
According to the June 2025 survey led by pollster, Mussa Dankwah, the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) has seen a significant rise in support from Akans, moving from 25% in November 2024 to 33%. This 8-percentage point jump suggests that the NDC is making inroads in regions long dominated by the NPP.
Meanwhile, support for the NPP among Akans saw a marginal dip from 42% to 41%, signalling a slight erosion in loyalty.
According to the polls, floating voters dropped from 19% to 14%, indicating that a good portion of previously undecided or uncommitted voters are now aligning with the NDC. Additionally, there was a 2% decline in those who refused to disclose their preference.
While the NPP still holds a lead among the Akan demographic, the narrowing margin highlighted by the poll shows a growing volatility within what has historically been their stronghold.
Political watchers say the NDC’s momentum among Akans who make up one of Ghana’s largest ethnic groups could prove decisive in key battleground regions if the trend continues into the final stretch of the campaign.
