Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu Fires Back: I’ve Always Fought for Ashanti Development — ‘Enemies Within the Party Twist Issues’”

Former Member of Parliament for Suame and former Majority Leader, Hon. Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, has dismissed claims that the Ashanti Caucus in Parliament rejected major road projects for the region in favour of community roads.
Speaking in a phone interview on Pure FM, he described the allegations as false and disappointing, insisting he has never attended any meeting where such a decision was made.
“I have never participated in any meeting that rejected major road projects for the Ashanti Region. From the video excerpts I’ve seen, Gabby Asare Otchere-Darko made those remarks, and that’s very unfortunate,” he said.
Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu emphasized that Gabby Otchere-Darko does not speak for the Ashanti Region, stressing that his comments were misguided and frustrating.
“Gabby does not speak for the Ashanti Region, and he must get that clear,” he added.
The former MP explained that he had consistently pushed for key road projects in the region, including inner and outer ring roads and a flyover at the Suame Roundabout, some of which date back to President Kufuor’s era.
“I have openly, including in Cabinet meetings, advocated for major projects for the region. Where was Gabby during all that?” he quizzed.
He further clarified that development is the responsibility of the government, not MPs.
“Those criticizing me for not working on Suame roads misunderstand governance,” he said.
Touching on internal party issues, he accused some elements within the NPP of twisting facts and spreading false stories to create confusion.
“Enemies within the party twist issues and make different stories. We are appealing to our people to stop such behaviour, or we will continue to see the bad performance of the current government,” he warned.
