The Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Bernard Antwi Boasiako, widely known as Chairman Wontumi, has called on party delegates to focus on electability when choosing the party’s next flagbearer.
According to him, delegates must set aside personal loyalties, friendships, and family considerations and instead support a candidate who has the strongest chance of leading the NPP back to power in the 2028 general elections.
The party is expected to hold its presidential primaries in about two weeks to select a candidate to contest the next national polls.
Chairman Wontumi made these comments while addressing party members during Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s campaign visit to the Ejura Sekyedumase Constituency on Saturday, January 17.
He argued that electoral victory should be the party’s foremost priority and maintained that Dr. Bawumia is best placed among the aspirants to secure victory for the NPP in 2028.
“If our ultimate goal is to regain power, then our decision should not be influenced by personal relationships,” he stated. “We must support the individual who can realistically lead the party to victory in the next election.”
