Ghanaians Have Lost Confidence in Bawumia – Ernest Owusu Bempah

A member of the Kennedy Agyapong campaign team, Ernest Owusu Bempah, says Ghanaians no longer have confidence in former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, citing what he described as poor electoral performance and declining public trust.
Speaking as a guest on Pure FM, Owusu Bempah argued that Dr. Bawumia was initially presented to the New Patriotic Party as a potential game changer, particularly because of his religious and regional background. According to him, the expectation was that presenting a Muslim candidate would significantly boost the party’s appeal, especially in northern Ghana and Zongo communities across the country.
However, he described Dr. Bawumia’s performance as disappointing, claiming that the former Vice President recorded his weakest electoral showing in regions where he was expected to perform strongly. Owusu Bempah stated that in parts of the Northern Region, Dr. Bawumia polled the lowest votes, with claims that he even recorded zero votes at some polling stations, a situation he described as unprecedented and embarrassing in the history of the NPP.
He further alleged that a similar trend occurred in the Savannah Region, while in the Upper East Region, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo reportedly secured more votes than Dr. Bawumia had managed. According to him, when the figures are compared, Akufo-Addo performed better overall in the northern parts of the country than Dr. Bawumia.
Owusu Bempah also claimed that Dr. Bawumia lost support in almost all Zongo communities nationwide, with the exception of Winneba Zongo, which he said suggests a broader rejection of his candidature by Zongo voters.
He added that across the country, NPP parliamentary candidates performed better than Dr. Bawumia, a development he said clearly indicates that voters distinguished between the party and its presidential candidate.
Based on these factors, Ernest Owusu Bempah concluded that Ghanaians no longer have faith in Dr. Bawumia’s leadership and electoral appeal, insisting that the figures from the 2024 elections reflect a loss of confidence rather than isolated voting patterns.
