NPP Needs Unity Ahead of General Elections – Daniel Kingsley Atta Boafo

Speaking on Pure FM, Hon. Daniel Kingsley Atta Boafo, former Consul General of Ghana to New York, has emphasized the urgent need for unity within the New Patriotic Party (NPP), warning that the current style of internal campaigning could negatively affect the party’s chances in the upcoming general elections.
According to him, the ongoing internal campaign approach is not helpful and risks deepening divisions within the party. He stressed that the NPP must adopt a guiding principle that brings all members together, starting from the grassroots, and avoid any form of discrimination.
“This should not be about high levels of education or money,” he stated. “The party must move away from the same old system that sidelines certain members.”
Hon. Atta Boafo noted that delegates must take their responsibility seriously by making inquiries and listening to the people in order to identify the candidate who truly represents the will of the electorate.
“The divisions we are seeing will not help the party,” he cautioned. “This election is not going to be too predictable. As the late Sir John used to say, ‘fear delegates,’ because anything can happen.”
He emphasized that what matters most is for delegates to choose a candidate who is genuinely wanted by the people and capable of winning the general elections.
Although he acknowledged that he knows all the candidates contesting in the race, Hon. Atta Boafo made it clear that he would not endorse any candidate at this stage.
“I will not support anyone yet,” he said. “I will first consult the people of my constituency to find out who they believe is best suited to lead the party into the general elections.”
He concluded by reiterating that unity, inclusiveness, and respect for the grassroots are critical if the NPP hopes to remain strong and competitive going forward.
