Dr Bryan Acheampong, a flagbearer hopeful for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has highlighted the disparity between the party’s parliamentary and presidential election performances in 2024 as a key lesson for the party’s future. Speaking on internal party deliberations, he pointed out that many NPP MPs achieved stronger results in their constituencies than the party’s presidential candidate, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia.
“The numbers are undeniable. Our MPs, in several areas, secured victories or performed far better than the presidential ticket,” Dr Acheampong stated. He stressed that this shows the importance of strong local representation and community engagement in driving electoral success.
He added that the 2024 results underscore the need for the NPP to reassess its leadership and strategies ahead of 2028. According to Dr Acheampong, the party must prioritize reconnecting with the grassroots, enhancing internal cohesion, and adopting innovative campaign methods to regain nationwide support.
“By learning from the 2024 elections, we can rebuild the party’s strength and chart a clear path to victory,” he said, noting that his experience in both national and constituency-level politics positions him as the leader capable of steering the NPP back to success.
Dr Acheampong called on party delegates to carefully consider the lessons of the last elections and support leadership that can deliver results in the next general elections.
